It’s been quite a week, between Passover, Easter, Earth Day, 4/20 Day, and I’m going to throw in Norooz because it was just about ending when Holy Week was beginning. Between all of these holidays I’ve been doing a lot of cooking!

I got really fast at rolling gondi, the Persian “matzo balls” made from chickpea flour and ground chicken that are a distinctive part of Persian Jewish cooking, and a big part of the Passover holiday. New York Magazine ran a nice story about this dish, and I made hundreds of “balls” for various dinners over the past few weeks. If you want to try whipping up this turmeric and cardamom-scented concoction, here’s the recipe.

Speaking of whipping, here’s a video of the ritual scallion whipping that’s done during a Persian Passover seder. Yes, this is a real thing, and it’s really fun!

While Passover and Easter are winding down, we still have one biggie – Earth Day on April 22 – to celebrate. What with all the dire climate change stories in the news this week, we REALLY better pay attention to the environment now. It would have been better if we had done it earlier, oh maybe a half century ago, but it’s too late for that now.

Here’s one thing you can do to help curb pollution – carry your own reusable shopping bag. To help you get motivated, the Atlanta-based Fashionable Notes design company has generously donated one super cute tote bag that’s perfect for food shopping. It’s designed by Aubrey Lenyard, the talented creator of Fashionable Notes. I’ve been carrying his awesome reusable shopping bags for years!

To win the bag, tell me in the comments section one thing you’re doing to help improve the environment. You have until midnight on Tuesday April 22 to post your comment.
